3 Must Throw Party Ideas for the Start of the School Year

With the fall semester in full swing and a busy workload starting to overwhelm you, it becomes almost a necessity to spend your weekend blowing off steam. You know the feeling you get Thursday afternoon sitting in your last class before the glorious weekend begins. You can pretend to listen to the professor’s lecture. Hell, you might even try to actually listen. But let’s face it, there is truly only one thing you can think about and that is PARTY. As soon as class ends you race back to your dorm and grab the first beer see. Finally, the weekend has come.

Now, the bar scene in college is fun at first but it can get old. Also, it is pretty likely that you have younger friends that you are excluding by going to a 21 and over venue. The perfect solution is to throw an awesome themed party where everyone can party together. The only question left is what that theme will be.

Googling party ideas is a good start but there are too many options and quite frankly most of them are just boring. The secret to choosing a great theme for your party is to pick the one that is most likely to engage party goers with one another. The reason anyone goes to party is to socialize and meet people. Unfortunately that is easier said than done. But, if your party has a theme that forces people to interact with people then you have a great formula for a fun and successful party. Here are a few examples:

Rubiks Cube Party

a Rubiks Cube theme is a great way to get party goers to interact with one another in a fun and flirtatious way, while losing some clothes along the way. The idea of the party is to come dressed wearing an article of clothing for every color on the Rubiks cube, then trade clothing with your peers in order to obtain certain colors. By the end of the party, the idea is to have all of your clothing one color and then you solved the Rubiks Cube. What do you win? Well, bragging rights for one, and maybe someone to bring home for the night. But the playful atmosphere that comes with the theme is sure to have people talking the next day. Whose sock am I wearing? Who has my Bruce Springsteen shirt? These questions may never be answered but will leave you with unforgettable memories and a bunch of new friends.

Thrift Shop

This is an interesting take on a costume party that is both hilarious and a little horrific. Everyone who comes to the party has to bring ridiculous and/or ugly clothes that they found from a thrift shop. Everyone could wear what they brought, but an idea that is even more fun is to put all contributions into one bin and let all the party goers mix and match. The conversation starters are endless and the outfits are outrageous. Who knew you would be into a Christmas sweater, denim overall, feathered fedora combo?

Stop Light Party

This theme is great for fast forwarding to the only thing that people really care about: Who’s single and ready to mingle? The rules are simple. If you wear red, you are in a relationship. Wearing yellow means you are single and will flirt, but not really looking to hook up. And if you wear green then you will be a very popular party goer that evening. Although the goal of the party may be to hook up, the theme allows all the guests to engage with one another and ask questions about their situation and meet some friends in the process.

By choosing one of these themes you take some pressure off your guests to make small talk or resort to cheesy pick up lines. They will create hilarious stories, new friendships, and help everyone forget that Monday is just right around the corner.
